There was a buzz in the air as word had spread around on the digital vine that the Big Bad Wolf was coming to town and an old s’cool rumble was going down! This wasn’t going to be your standard car park car show but one to be remembered in the archives of hot rod history, or until the next rockabilly event put on by those cool cats of Kingpin Kuztums!

A sunny autumn Saturday in the leafy outer suburb of Melbourne, Lilydale, nestled in the hills of the Yarra Ranges greeted the excited rockabilly party goers as they turned up in their droves at the well-appointed York On Lilydale resort. They came in their cool classic and custom rides, rods and bikes to take in fifties party atmosphere Rob, Lam and the Kingpin Kuztum team have become renowned for. Many regular devotees to this scene once again came doled up to the nines in high anticipation of another rockabilly riot while new comers looking to embrace this growing scene came down with their rides or on foot to take in the spectacle of a classic chrome, custom paint and metal flake filled carpark and inside entertainment.

The event kicked off at 2pm to an already 3/4 filled carpark and Joy Ride kicked off the stage entertainment as numerous trade stands prepared for an influx of eager rockers looking to update and add to their uniquely personal fifties look. Desperado Ink Tattoo Studio was set up to update your custom signature ink while Kez from Bam Bam hair and beauty products was on hand to touch up the fairer sex’s beauty enhancements and offer expert advice for future makeovers. Northern Barber shop owners, Vinnie and Mick had the razors ready to spruce your do before shopping for shirts at the large KingPin Kuztum Clothing Ink stand or other clothing and accessory stands such as Skullie’s Bowtique or Kuztomville just to name a few!

Pancho’s Kustom’s demonstrated his airbrush prowess while outside, ANDRA demonstrated the raw unadulterated power of a top fuel drag car and drag bike with demo start-ups. Other surrounding stands catered for your ride, be it a Pearl Kote steering wheel to keep you pointed in the right direction or those old s’cool bing items for dressing up your donk.

As this rockabilly party was held at an established resort, a good meal with friends in the bistro could easily be acquired and for those who didn’t want to miss a minute of the entertainment, a bain marie served finger food while every room seemed to have a bar for thirsty punters!

As darkness descended on the autumn coloured carpark, the cool air laid a dew across the remaining classics but inside, the action stayed hot right till the end but all good things must come to an end but that’s just a great excuse to start up another one sometime soon so stay tuned!

A big pat on the back must go to the Kingpin Kuztums team and their efficient expertise in creating and setting up these events and making sure one and all have a great time and are well catered for. Also, this event wouldn’t have been on at York On Lilydale without the support of ALH staff and management who’s professional insight could foresee the benefits of teaming up with Kingpin Kuztums to create an event we simply love to attend and immures ourselves in. All charities raised on the day went to a very special kid’s charity which adds to that warm fuzzy feeling we have as we head out into the night for home….or is that the alcohol?!
