Spanners, screwdrivers, zip ties and a decent tyre pressure gauge cover most of it. But the one upgrade multiple drivers rated as a genuine game-changer is a battery-powered impact gun for tyre changes, one driver called changing a tyre by hand in 45-degree heat ‘not much fun,’ which might be the understatement of the year.

There’s also a case made for the most overlooked tool in the cab: your phone. Beyond calls and GPS, it’s a video link to a mechanic, a logbook, and a way to look up a repair tutorial on the side of the highway.
