From a sleepless night to the show circuit, that’s how Ray’s 1997 Western Star Heritage went from a forgotten yard truck to an award-worthy restoration, and it’s one of the more personal feature stories we’ve come across on Trucksales this year.

The truck itself is only half the story. Ray’s family has been in the transport game for 47 years, and the two-year restoration, mural, painted tanks, custom bumper and all, was his way of honouring that history rather than reinventing the truck. Alan Mounsey, the craftsman behind the build, previously worked on Paul Freestone’s interstate fleet, so there’s real pedigree behind the panelwork.

If you appreciate a heritage build done properly, original chassis, no stretching, mechanicals kept true to spec, this one is worth the full read.
